MHP is preparing to intensify enforcement efforts for the New Year’s holiday

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is getting ready for the 2021-2022 New Year’s holiday and will begin to intensify enforcement efforts beginning on Dec. 30 at 6 a.m. The intensified enforcement efforts will conclude on Jan. 2 at midnight.
“The New Year 2022 is fast approaching, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol is committed to stepping up enforcement efforts during this holiday period,” stated Lt. Colonel Malachi Sanders. “We will do our part and we ask the public to do theirs by wearing a seat belt and driving careful so we can bring in 2022 safely.”
During this period, all available state troopers will be called into service and place an emphasis on being visible to the public.
Troopers will be enforcing seat belt use, speeding violations and utilize safety checkpoints to identify impaired drivers and reduce the risk of crashes along the roadways.
During this period last year, MHP investigated 158 crashes involving three fatalities and made 184 DUI arrests.
