A Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers’ vehicle was shot overnight.

According to Chief Jones, “Officers responded to an address on 1st Avenue to a possible burglary. Upon arrival, contact was made with an MHP Trooper who stated they were awakened by shots fired in their driveway. The trooper walked outside and discovered that her patrol unit had been damaged.” Chief Jones reports, “The rear driver side window had been shattered out and rear passenger side window had a bullet hole. Shell casings were recovered.”

Earlier on Wednesday, an alert Vicksburg Daily News reader reported a large presence of MHP units on Spring Street near South Street in the city.
