Michael James Jones faces judge for murder of Joshua Coffee

Michael James Jones, previously arrested in Denton, Texas, was presented before Judge Angela Carpenter on Thursday, facing charges relating to the murder of Joshua Coffee. Jones was given a $2 million bond for the murder charge and an additional $30,000 for being a felon in posession of a firearm.
In November 2020, shots rang out over the city, claiming the life of Joshua Coffee. Two other men, identified as Michael James Jones and Kameron Reed were reported to have also been injured during the incident. Then Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore investigated the shooting, though the suspects were not immediately identified.
In March 2023, Jones was apprehended in Texas following a traffic stop for suspicious driving. The stop revealed that Jones was wanted in connection to Coffee’s murder. He was also found in possession of controlled substances, including fentanyl.
Following the arrest, Jones was held at the Denton City Jail, facing both the Vicksburg murder charge and two drug-related charges, for which his bail was set at $100,000.
