When contacted Thursday morning about their upcoming reopening of several operations, you could hear the excitement in the voice of long time MIDD — West Director Kearney Waites.

Waites has been director of the nonprofit agency that employs the disabled since 1980. He has seen the organization through many trying times, but the COVID-19 situation brought many vital programs to a halt. Concern for the health of the clients caused the community recycling program to be shuttered.

MIDD — West is set to reopen Monday, April 24th. Waites said the four trailers will be emptied daily, and asked for the public’s cooperation in putting the correct materials in them. Placing household garbage in them has been a common problem for years. He asks that those who have been stock piling recyclable material also consider bringing them to the center at 100 Smokey Lane, which is off Rifle Range Road, during weekday hours. You can contact them at 601-638-2770 for more information.

Waites reminds the community that they also have shredding services available and said their price point is significantly less than commercial rates.

MIDD — West provides an array of services to those who are developmentally disabled. There are currently numerous people working in the community who have gained job skills and independence through their various programs. If you know someone who might benefit from their services, please contact them at 601-638-2770 for more information.
