Mikulski has successfully made the band at Louisiana Tech University
St. Aloysius graduate, Abby Mikulski, has accomplished her goal of joining the band at Louisiana Tech University.
Mikulski began playing the trombone in the fifth grade and continued throughout high school, where the band became a significant part of her life.
“I just love the environment, and I’m a part of many extracurricular activities, but the band was by far my favorite,” Mikulski said.
One of her most memorable moments, Mikulski recalls, was at a football game when the outdated visitor stands collapsed, forcing her to run quickly.
After graduation, Abby took some time before considering tryouts but eventually decided to give it a shot. Mikulski’s audition was held online. Remarkably, she taught herself how to read sheet music in three days to beat the odds and earn a spot at LA Tech.
“I guess it was good enough,” Mikulski said, jokingly. “I still can’t believe I pulled that off, and I was so excited, but I think my mom was more excited than anyone.”
College band will officially start for Mikulski on August 27 when she attends band camp, hoping to impress her new band directors.
Abby will be majoring in Biology and Environmental Science, planning to work in wildlife.
Mikulski put in a lot of hard work to achieve this goal, and she didn’t hesitate to thank those who supported her.
“I want to say thanks to my parents, all of my band directors, and my friends for being so supportive over the years,” Abby said.
