Honored, blessed, surprised and overwhelmed.

Those were just a few of the emotions JoLee Ming felt when she learned she had been chosen as the Vicksburg Warren School District’s elementary Teacher of the Year.

Ming, a kindergarten teacher with 34 years of experience, was first selected by her peers as the teacher of the year at Redwood Elementary School. Each school’s honoree was then interviewed and an overall winner was selected.

“Being a school’s Teacher of the Year is an incredible honor because you’re being recognized by people who know the hard work and dedication teaching requires. My coworkers are all amazing and deserving of recognition,” Ming said.

“To be named for the district is just overwhelming. I’m blessed to be honored for doing something I love to do. All of the teachers nominated are passionate about teaching and equally as deserving, so this came as a total surprise,” Ming added.

Redwood Principal Buddy Wooten took the news in stride.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all that Ms. Ming won the Teacher of the Year for the VWSD,” he said. “She is a kind soul that has a genuine love for teaching and a genuine love for her students. We are very fortunate to have her with us at Redwood.”
