Mississippi Aquarium sets opening date of April 30, 2020
The Mississippi Aquarium, currently under construction in Gulfport, Miss., is scheduled to open April 30, 2020.
WLOX reported Friday that officials heading up the project agreed on a firm date after a construction meeting.
“We have a lot of work to do. Not only to finish construction, but we have our own work to do in there loading animals. So, lot of exciting times coming up. This is crunch time for us, but we’re used to it,” said David Kimmel, aquarium president and CEO, to WLOX.
The aquarium, built with an estimated $93 million in private funds, expects to generate $340 million annually in revenue and employ 65 full-time and 45 part-time employees.
It will feature more than 80,000 square feet of exhibits and contain one million gallons of salt and fresh water.
