Mississippi assessing damage from Sunday’s severe storms

The National Weather Service is sending out teams in Mississippi to assess damage caused by yesterday’s storms.

High winds caused downed trees in Attala County and a possible tornado in Newton County. Damage has also been reported in Hinds, Kemper and Oktibbeha counties.

In Warren, Hinds, Madison and Atalla counties, 2,850 Entergy customers lost power yesterday, and work is continuing today to restore it. Southern Pine Electric restored power to 181 customers yesterday.

Sunday’s storms followed on the heels of another spate of severe storms less than two weeks ago. On Dec 16, 14 tornados tore through Mississippi causing damage in 27 counties, some of it severe.
