Mississippi State University baseball player JT Ginn was drafted in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft Thursday night.

The right handed pitcher was selected by the New York Mets, the MLB announced on Twitter Thursday.

Ginn is a former Brandon High School standout, and he was the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year in 2018.

Ginn was also drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of high school, but he decided to go to college and play for the Bulldogs instead. In 2019, he became the second Mississippi State freshman and 17th Diamond Dawg to reach the 100-strikeout mark in a single season.

He was chosen as the 52nd overall pick of the draft. Because Ginn was picked up early, he will have a high payday. The 52nd pick is worth a $1.4 million contract.
