Central and North Mississippi is bracing for another round of extreme weather starting Monday, Feb. 10.

The National Weather Service in Jackson says that flash flooding is likely early next week as several rounds of heavy rainfall are expected to move through the area. A flash flood watch is in effect for locations generally along and north of Interstate 20.

Expect total rainfall amounts of 3 to 8 inches through Tuesday night with locally higher amounts possible. Rain and thunderstorms will continue Wednesday and possibly into Thursday.

Also, expect that numerous roads may be flooded and possibly closed. Structures will be threatened with inundation, and moderate river flooding is also possible.

The NWS has also issued flood warnings for the Mississippi River for today at Vicksburg affecting Claiborne and Warren counties in Mississippi, and Madison, Tensas and Jefferson parishes in Louisiana.

Additional warnings for the Mississippi have been issued at Greenville (affecting East Carroll, Issaquena and Washington counties in Mississippi and Chicot County in Arkansas) and Natchez (affecting Adams and Wilkinson counties in Mississippi and Concordia Parish in Louisiana).
