Mississippi Capitol COVID-19 outbreak grows to 41 including 17% of legislators
The COVID-19 outbreak at the Mississippi Capitol complex now numbers at least 41 positive test results.
From last week’s announcement that 26 legislators and 10 others had tested positive, the list now includes 30 legislators and 11 others, according the State Health Officers Dr. Thomas Dobbs.
Included among those testing positive for the virus are Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Philip Gunn. Dobbs released the information during a streaming press conference Tuesday.
The numbers of positive cases illustrate how contagious COVID-19 is. The number of Mississippi lawmakers is 174 —122 representatives and 52 senators. The 30 infected lawmakers represent a 17.2% contagion rate.
