Mississippi fugitive captured in Oklahoma
Hours after putting the word out about a Mississippi man who faked his own death rather than face prosecution, U.S. Marshals captured Jacob Blair Scott in Oklahoma.
Scott disappeared on July 18, 2018, a few days before he was scheduled to plead guilty to charges related to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old Jackson County girl. His boat, gun and a suicide note were found in Orange Beach, Alabama, but authorities had strong reasons to believe the suicide was faked.
Yesterday, the U.S. Marshals Service sent out a national press release about Scott and last night, the case was featured on the true-crime TV show “In Pursuit with John Walsh.”
It turns out Scott has been living in a trailer in Oklahoma and using the name Luke. Responding to a tip called in to the Pushmataha County Sheriff’s Department in Oklahoma, marshals acted quickly to locate and arrest him.
Scott will make his initial court appearance in Oklahoma and will be extradited back to Mississippi to face the 14 charges he was attempting to escape from. The charges include sexual battery, touching a child for lustful purposes and exploitation of a child. Undoubtedly, he will face additional charges for fleeing from prosecution.
