Mississippi River Bridge repairs playing havoc with I-20 west traffic

Construction on the Mississippi River Bridge is snarling traffic on the westbound side of Interstate 20.
Traffic is down to one lane near Washington Street today. Additionally, construction crews periodically stop all traffic as they reposition equipment.
Around 2:15 p.m. Sunday, traffic was backed up to near Indiana Avenue. A three-vehicle collision occurred between a passenger car, an SUV and an 18 wheeler. There were no significant injuries.
Repairs to the bridge are being completed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development at an estimated $27.7 million and are expected to be completed in early 2021. The westbound lanes should be completed long before then, but work on that side could still take several months.
As you travel through the area, please keep the bridge construction in mind. Consider alternate routes whenever possible and use extreme caution.
