The Mississippi River will reach a depth of 42 feet on Wednesday according to the National Weather Service.

The river has continued to rise throughout the month due to heavy rains throughout the delta as well as the melting of the snows up river in the northern states. The March 6, 2022 reading was at a depth of 39.59 ft, and is currently at 41.80 feet.

The flood level for the Mississippi River at Vicksburg is currently set at 43 ft. The most recent time the river has risen above flood level was in 2019. The river was above flood stage for longest period since 1927.

The river is expected to recede after Wednesday and be below 40ft by March 26, 2022.
