Mississippi sets a new one-day record of COVID-19 cases with 3,255

Mississippi set another record in the number of new COVID-19 cases reported Thursday.

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 3,255 new cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 48 deaths. The cumulative number of cases in the state is 231,490 and deaths total 5,061.

All deaths occurred between Dec. 18 and Jan. 6.

MSDH has identified 89 new cases in residents of long-term care facilities and 12 deaths. There are currently 223 ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
