Over 4,000 Mississippi soldiers are currently training for the next several weeks for certification for possible overseas deployment.

The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, which has over 3,500 members along with 800 additional Mississippi National Guardsmen, will be undergoing intensive training at Ft. Irwin, California.

The intense desert conditions in the region northeast of Barstow are used to simulate conditions in the Middle East. The Guardsmen are responsible for the transportation and logistics support of equipment, machinery and vehicles.

“We’re ready for deployment on an every 4-5 year cycle, and so this is sort of their third or fourth year of training,” said Maj. Gen. Janson D. Boyles, Mississippi’s Adjutant General, in a quote reported by WDAM. “It’s culminated to this point and once they finish this training, they’ll take a knee for a few months, and then, they’ll be ready to go overseas, if their number is called.”

Boyles says the training should wrap up around July 1.
