On tonights America’s Got Talent a trio from Poplarville, Mississippi, called Chapel Hart got a Golden Buzzer from all the judges and Terry Crews.
The country trio won the judges and audience over with their upbeat approach and their original country song, “You Can Have Him Jolene”. The song is an updated version of the Dolly Parton classic from 1973. “We figured though that from 1973 to 2022 we could not still be fighting over the same man,” said lead singer, Danica Hart. “So we decided you can just have him, Jolene.”
The band is made up of sisters Danica and Devynn Hart and their cousin, Trea Swindle. “These ladies have found a way to gift wrap their Mississippi roots & Louisiana spunk and share it with listeners around the world.”
Their pre-song interview with Simon Cowell had the audience laughing. The crowd was on their feet throughout the entire song and had one of the loudest and longest applause in recent AGT history. Once he had the chance, Simon said, “I needed you today.” Cowell asked them if they’ve been trying to break into music or get a record deal? Danica responded while fighting through the tears, “We’ve been trying to break into Nashville for the last couple of years but it’s been kind of hard when country music doesn’t always look like us.”
Howie Mandell responded saying, “County music doesn’t look like you? That is your win. Because you are going to be the original.”
The Golden Buzzer
Simon said, “If I hadn’t used my Golden Buzzer, I would give you my Golden Buzzer.” Which set the crown chanting, “Golden Buzzer! Golden Buzzer!” Terry Crews joined the judges and said, “This is really special. Really special.”
Then Simon counted down “5, 4, 3, 2, 1,” and all four judges and Terry Crews hit the Golden Buzzer at the same time.
The Golden Buzzer gives the performers a fast track to the live performance stage and ensures they will be on the main show.
