Missy Gators clinch their third straight district championship
For the third year in a row, Vicksburg High School is the Region 4-5A District Champions after an 18-0 win over Jim Hill.
“It’s always fun when you win a district championship, especially for these girls because we’re always talking about building a legacy,” VHS head coach Brian Ellis said. We want to make it to that North State Championship this year because we were a series short last year and I don’t think it’s going to be a problem for us to achieve that this time.”
The Missy Gators went up 14-0 after multiple walks and hits coming from Harmony Harris, Jo’Lencia Howard, Trinity McGloster, Jordan Powell, Amari Johnson, and Lexi Kistler. Powell brought in three runs from a single while Harris got a double and Howard added a triple.
Shandrea Lockridge and Vijae Flaggs both got big hits in the second to push the lead to 18-0 while Lexi Kistler struck out another three batters to end the game and claimed another district title.
Kistler threw a no-hitter and ended the night with seven strikeouts.
“I’m really proud of us because we kept our head in the game and we came out here and finished it,” Kistler said.
Harris, Kistler and Howard all led with two hits each on the night.
Tonight’s win gives VHS a first round bye-week in the playoffs.
