The Vicksburg High School softball team defeated Yazoo City 14-13 on Saturday in their annual Strikeout Cancer Tournament.
Yazoo City went up 3-0 early in the first inning, but VHS responded well, beginning with a triple from Amari Johnson. Hits from Lexi Kistler, Lili Kistler, Vijae Flaggs, Jordan Powell and Avery VanNorman helped the Missy Gators capture a 9-3 lead.
Yazoo City eventually took over again with multiple hits, which led to them taking a 10-9 lead.
Late in the game, the Missy Gators found themselves trailing 9-13 before they refocused and picked up some major hits that allowed them to take a 14-13 lead before the game was called.
VHS will travel to Cleveland Central on Thursday.
