Missy Gators grabbed a district win over Forest Hill

Vicksburg High School girl’s basketball team, under head coach Troy Stewart, defeated Forest Hill on Monday night in a 59-47 win.

The Missy Gators took an early 14-8 lead by the end of the first quarter with Layla Carter and Ja’Na Colenburg knocking down three pointers.

Forest Hill came out strong in the second quarter. With Genae Garner leading the way, Forest Hill managed a 25-22 halftime lead over the Missy Gators.

Carter and Destini Sims got hot in the third quarter and kept the Missy Gators afloat. They would eventually retake the lead in the fourth quarter.

Carter led the Missy Gators with 19 points followed by Sims who finished with 14. Colenburg contributed eight points while Kierra James and Janiah Caples added six.

The Missy Gators will host Jim Hill on Friday.
