Missy Gators making history by advancing to the third round after defeating Ridgeland on Saturday
Vicksburg High School softball team took down Ridgeland 17-11 in game two on Saturday to advance to the third round of the playoffs.
“We played so wonderful I’m so proud of the team especially with the pitchers because they came in and supported each other but we worked so hard and we’re ready for anything,” Lexi Kistler said.
The Missy Gators quickly got two runs after a double by Lexi Kistler and a single by Kellisia Walker. Ridgeland quickly responded with three runs to go up 3-2 at the end of the first inning.
VHS didn’t get a run in the second but the Titans managed to steal a base at home and went up 4-2.
After a tough second inning the Missy Gators came to play in the third starting with a hit by Jordan Grace followed by a double by Lexi Kistler and a RBI by Walker. Averi VanNorman and JaMia Grace would both get a RBI to give VHS a 5-4 lead.
The Missy Gators continued pressure Ridgeland as Amari Johnson and Trinity McGloster tripled that brought in three more runs. McGloster then got a steal at home to give VHS a 9-4 lead.
Walker started things off in the fourth with a double followed by a RBI by Charli VanNorman to push the lead to 10-4.
Lili Kistler came in to pitch in the fourth where she struck out to batters in the inning.
The Missy Gators struggled to hit early in the fifth until Jordan Grace got a hit and Lexi Kistler came behind her with a double. Walker capped things off with a single that brought in two scores.
Ridgeland managed to get a home run in the fifth as they trailed VHS 12-6.
In the sixth inning VHS extended their lead to 17-6 after McGloster, Lexi Kistler, Walker, Lili Kistler all got a double along with Averi VanNorman and Johnson getting RBIs.
Ridgeland found their groove in the bottom of the sixth by pulling in five runs to narrow the Missy Gators’ lead to 17-11.
VHS didn’t get any runs during the top of the seventh as they still led by six but still managed to hold Ridgeland off after Jordan Grace came in clutch with some great pitching to take home the 17-11 win and advance to the third round of the playoffs.
Walker finished with six RBIs and five hits on the night while Lexi Kistler got three doubles and four hits.
JaMia Grace struck out three batters in the win while Lili Kistler and Jordan Grace struck out two.
