Missy Gators win the district title in a 11-10 victory over Ridgeland
Vicksburg High School softball clinch the district championship on Monday against Ridgeland in a 11-10 win.
The Missy Gators found themselves behind as the Titans were leading 9-4 going into the fifth inning but VHS found a spark by collecting a total of 11 hits.
Madelyn McAdams, Jamie Ward, and Lexi Kistler all contributed scores for VHS in the fourth inning.
Kistler started the game for the Missy Gators as she allowed nine hits and struck out six batters. She also went 3 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs.
By the sixth inning, McAdams came in relief and began striking out batters easily to help bring home the district title. She had a total of five strikeouts.
Kellisia Walker and Charlie VanNorman both had two hits for VHS in the win, along with Ward, McAdams, and Kistler who all had two RBIs.
Being down late in the game never discouraged the Gators, but they continued to play and hit hard and eventually brought home the well-deserved district title.
“Its awesome when you win the district title and that was one of our goals this year,” head coach Brian Ellis said. “I told them from the beginning to make the routine plays and don’t give up the big innings,” he added.
Now that they have clinched the district title, the Missy Gators will soon be preparing for the playoffs but tonight they are celebrating their great achievements.
