One adult and one child remain hospitalized at the University of Mississippi Medical Center following a crash Tuesday in Port Gibson.

Initial information indicated that the crash was in Claiborne County when the accident scene was inside Port Gibson’s corporate limits, according to Port Gibson Police Chief Calvin Jackson.

The accident was reported at around 1:15 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found a collision between an 18-wheel log truck and a Nissan Maxima.

Four of the five passengers of the Maxima did not fare well. One child died at the scene and another perished on the way to the hospital. The driver of the Nissan, Audrey Carson McNeil, 30, was airlifted to UMMC along with her 5-year-old son. Both are in critical condition, according to Chief Jackson.

Jackson is withholding the names of the two deceased children at this time but did say they were the children of Audrey Carson McNeil’s sister, Cassidy Carson, and were 5 and 11.

A fifth passenger in the Nissan, Ruby Jean Carson, 54, was examined at the scene, but did not require hospitalization.

The driver of the log truck was Robert Mobley, 30, of Vicksburg. His condition is not known, and it is not clear who owns the truck.

Jackson said the investigation is ongoing, and evidence will be sent to the Mississippi Crime lab.
