Vicksburg was one of four stops on the annual high water inspection tour of the Mississippi River Commission.

The meetings were held aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi, the flagship vessel for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

On hand for Wednesday’s session were Major General Diana Holland, president of the MRC and Commanding General of the Mississippi Valley Division. Each welcomed attendees to the 404th Session.

Col. Robert Hilliard, Vicksburg District Commander, provided an overview of the district’s progress over the past year. The public hearings provide for open dialogue and give community members and agencies, state and federal officials and stakeholders an opportunity to speak on the record with Corps leaders.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. was on hand to welcome the gathering. South Delta Farmers Victoria Darden and Clay Adcock addressed the commission in regards to the ongoing needs of agricultural producers as it relates to flood control and mitigation. Peter Nimrod, chief engineer for the Mississippi Levee Board, also addressed the gathering with similar concerns.
