Mississippi State University is hiring Nikki McCray as head coach of the women’s basketball team, according to multiple reports.

McCray is currently the head coach at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., where she was able to turn round a struggling team. She recently finished up her third season as coach with a 24-6 record this year.

McCray played basketball at the University of Tennessee from 1991 to 1995 where she was a two time All-American in 1994 and 1995. She went on to star in the WNBA for ten years and was named the American Basketball League MVP in 1997.

McCray was also inducted into the women’s basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. She will replace former MSU coach Vic Shaefer who has left the Bulldogs to become the head coach at the University of Texas.
