Fatality victim identified in Interstate 20 crash
Around 8:30 a.m., a multiple-vehicle collision was reported along Interstate 20 west around the 9-mile marker.
Initial reports indicated up to five vehicles were involved. Multiple injuries and a fatality were reported.
A 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 42-year-old Gary L. Bevis of Horatio, AR, traveled west on Interstate 20 near Bovina when it collided with the rear of a westbound FedEx tractor-trailer driven by 59-year-old Angel J. Rodriguez of Rialto, CA, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
One vehicle overturned and was leaking gas, according to our initial report. A fire was said to have started from the crash but was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Mr. Rodriguez nor his passenger, Alexander Carlosama of Oceanside, CA, received injuries. The other vehicles involved in the crash were a 2021 GMC Yukon, a 2021 Mazda CX-9, and a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. None of the occupants in the GMC Yukon nor the Mazda CX-9 received injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet Camaro was transported to Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg with unknown injuries. Mr. Bevis received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
