Myrtle Mae Owens Anderson passed away on Wednesday, Sep. 28, after a short illness. She was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Riverview, Nebraska to Roy and Alice Owens. The family later moved to Harvard, Nebraska where she graduated high school. It was there that she met Lyle “Andy” Anderson and they were married in January 1950. They lived in Hastings, Nebraska until they moved to Yazoo County, Mississippi in 1961. Later they moved to Vicksburg where they made their home until Andy’s death in 1997. Myrt continued to call Vicksburg home until 2006, when she moved to Pearl, Mississippi to be nearer to her adult children and grandchildren.

Myrtle retired from the U.S. Corps of Engineers in 1993 and became very active in church activities at Porters Chapel UMC until her move in 2006. She then became active at Pearl UMC until her health declined and limited her activities. She volunteered her time in many ways at church and in her community.

Myrtle is survived by her children Mickey in Pearl, Archie (Barbara) in Starkville, Steve in Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Pam McCoy (Tim) in Florence. She is also survived by her grandchildren- Brian Anderson of Warner Robbins, GA, Leslie Hebert of Brandon, MS, Stephanie Hiott of Summerville, SC, Zachary Murray of Biloxi, MS, Jennifer Smith of Vicksburg, MS, Jacob and Emma Gifford of Florence, MS, and several bonus grandchildren. She is also survived her sister Eleanor Elliott in Anderson, California, her brother Richard Owens in Central City, Nebraska, eight great-grandchildren, numerous bonus great-grandchildren and several bonus great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Anderson, son Ron Anderson, infant son Robin Anderson, daughter Debbie Murray, her parents, brothers Jesse Owens and Roy Owens, Jr., and two great-grandsons, Tyler and Haydn Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Gifford, Trey Smith, Shelby McCoy, Paul Hebert, Brian Anderson, and Tim McCoy.

Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, MS with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and funeral directly following. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please consider contributions to the building and/or Benevolence Funds at their chosen churches.

The family would like to thank the staff members of Amada Senior Care, Villa South Assisted Living Center, Briar Hill Rehab and Nursing Center and St. Dominic Hospital for care provided during these last several months.
