Nancy Lee (White) Peterson

Nancy Lee (White) Peterson died on Thursday, August 31, 2023. She was 92. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Lee White and Judith White on December 13, 1930. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John Gary Peterson.

Nancy was an amazing wife and mother. She totally supported her husband, John, and always strived to provide the very best home for her children. Professionally, she worked as a draftsman early in her life and later worked for many years as a medical receptionist. Perhaps her most important role in life was to encourage, help, and support John as he owned and operated Peterson Filters Inc. and Vicksburg Engineering & Manufacturing (VEM).

Nancy, like her husband John, loved sailing. They started with the Flying Junior (FJ) sailboat and then moved up to the beautiful 29’ Ericson sailboat they named “Chuckles”. They were active in the Redwood City Yacht Club and logged many nautical miles around San Francisco Bay, sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge several times. Nancy served as the always faithful “crew” for Captain John on both their causal sailing trips as well as their competitive racing. She was also John’s co-pilot as they traveled the country in later years in their private plane (the Mooney). In addition, Nancy loved reading and books. She served for many years as a volunteer at the Vicksburg Public Library. She also greatly enjoyed tennis and was a very good player.

Nancy is survived by her two sisters, Margie Cook, and Judy Shepherd. She is also survived by her three sons: John L. Peterson, Mark L. Peterson, and Glen C. Peterson, along with their wives, children, and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at the Fisher-Riles Funeral Home at 5000 Indiana Ave. Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00am – 11:00am followed by a service at 11:00am.
