The Winter Weather Event of 2021 continues as we speak. Heroes are emerging every hour with small acts of kindness and those who can doing even bigger things for their community.

On Monday, word spread through town that the staff at the hospital needed food and Entergy workers from outside the area also needed meals. A few minutes and a couple of social media posts later, Terri White McCall and Felicia Grantham from Southern Sisters and Kevin Roberts from Fit Chef stepped up to begin preparing food.

Ricky Hearn, Troy Kimble and Paul Richards formed a mass delivery team and transported meals to the staffs at Merit Health River Region, Promise Hospital and area nursing homes.

Tuesday brought even colder temperatures and news that some pipes were frozen at The Bluffs Rehabilitation Center. Local businessman Alan Pugh sprang into action, rounding up some heaters to thaw the pipes. Soon, the facility could operate normally.

McDonald’s also stepped up to provide 130 meals for first responders.  Read more about that generous act here.

Every hour, the Vicksburg Daily News learns of acts both big and small where neighbors are helping neighbors. It is times like these when the proverbial cream rises to the top and the true character of the community becomes apparent.
