Bubba Nettles has been name as St. Aloysius new Athletics Director.

Vicksburg Catholic School made the announcement on Thursday informing everyone their decision.

Bubba Nettles, St. Aloysius Head Football Coach, has been hired as Athletic Director for Vicksburg Catholic School. Nettles will assume the duties currently held by Mike Jones, who will be retiring in May following more than 20 years of service to the school.“I look forward to building and maintaining positive relationships with all of our great Coaches,” said Nettles. “I am super excited and ready to go.”

Nettles is a graduate of Belhaven University and has coached football for over 13 years collectively in the Louisiana High School Athletics Association, Mississippi High School Athletics Association, and Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.

“I am fully invested in Vicksburg Catholic School, both personally and professionally,” said Nettles. “Each member of my family is a part of the VCS family as my lovely wife, Katie, teaches art at St. Francis, and both of our children attend school here. It is an honor to be in a position that can further our school’s entire athletic program while working alongside my family.”

In discussing the selection of Nettles for the position, St. Aloysius Principal Karla McHan pointed to his deeply rooted commitment and enthusiasm for the school and its future.

“Coach Nettles has fully invested himself in Vicksburg Catholic School both in and outside of the classroom,” said McHan. “He is a strong supporter of our student athletes and proudly cheers them on in all sports. While Mike Jones will be greatly missed, we look forward to what Coach Nettles will offer our program.”

Nettles spent one season as the Flashes’ defensive coordinator in 2020 before becoming head coach in 2021. He also spent many years coaching at Vicksburg High School.

Nettles will take over the athletics department due to the retiring of Mike Jones but he will also remain as the head football coach.
