Crime

New Main murder accomplice still on the run

Bobby McGee

On May 15, 2020, Moses Luckett was shot once in the chest at the New Main Apartments in Vicksburg. His alleged killer, Summer McGee, shot Luckett, and then jumped in the back of a white truck that then sped away from the scene. The driver of the truck is purported to be her brother, Bobby McGee.

Luckett later died of his wounds.

The two suspects fled to Yazoo County, where they’re from, and Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff spotted the truck and stopped it on Highway 3 at the southern end of Eagle Bend Road. Sheriff took Summer McGee into custody, but her brother, Bobby, fled from the vehicle as Sheriff was handcuffing his sister. He escaped and ran into the nearby woods.

Law enforcement from Yazoo, Warren and Madison counties and their K-9 units arrived to assist in the hunt. It was called off when the trail went cold in a swamp and it started raining, ending any chance for the dogs to pick up McGee’s scent.

Later that evening, just before midnight, McGee knocked on a door in nearby Tinsley. He was wearing the same red shorts and white T-shirt he had on when he escaped from the truck and was covered in mud. The homeowner refused him entry, but officials said he was able to steal a gun from a vehicle near that location and escape back into the night. He was later suspected of stealing a vehicle in Denbury, near Tinsley, the Yazoo Herald reported. That vehicle was found abandoned next to a vacant house near Center Ridge Road, just south of Yazoo City. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Summer McGee has been charged with first degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond.

Multiple warrants have been issued for McGee from Yazoo and Warren Counties. McGee also has an outstanding warrant from Yazoo County in connection to a drive-by shooting last month.

If you have information on the whereabouts of Bobby McGee, call the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office at 662-746-5611 or Crime Stoppers at 601-756-TIPS (8477).
