New Main shooting victim is 16-years-old

Adam 4, Deputy Chief Penny Jones has updated the Vicksburg Daily News on the New Main shooting incident.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired at New Main apartments around 10:48 p.m. While officers were investigating that call, numerous calls continued to come into 911 reporting shots fired at the New Main apartments located at 2727 Alcorn Drive, Building #200. One call reported that someone may have been hit at that building. The first officer on the scene reported on the radio at 10:51 p.m. that they were “Pulling up at 200,” which is located in the back of the property.
Almost immediately another dispatcher reported a resident at the apartment complex called in that there were several bullet holes in her apartment. Another officer reported on the radio shortly after that about numerous bullet holes in building 200. Officers located the 16-year-old male who was shot and noted that it appeared he had been shot numerous times in the legs. Fire Medic 20 was cleared to enter the scene and treated the gunshot victim. They then transported him to Merit Health River Region where he was airlifted by helicopter to UMMC in Jackson.
His condition is unknown at the time of this report.
Chief Jones noted that it the initial investigation indicates a rivalry of some sort between the individual that was shot and another group of people had been building for some time, culminating in tonight’s shooting.
The Vicksburg Daily News will stay on this story and update you soon as new information becomes available.
An unconfirmed report by a witness to the event noted that the shooting was probably caught on security cameras and the shooters are mostly juveniles under 18 with a couple of over 18 “adults” involved.
