New trolley car will soon be taking the streets of downtown Vicksburg
Vicksburg has invested in a new trolley car which will run through the main streets of downtown.
Mayor George Flaggs confirmed that he has partnered with the Vicksburg Convention Bureau to make this into a reality. “The trolley is going to be used for moving people around,” said Flaggs. He said it will cater to tourists and people who come off of the boats. “It’s being used so we can capitalize off of people seeing and moving around in the city. I think that’s going to be good for tourism,” he continued.
The mayor mentioned that the trolley will travel along Washington Street and will be available to rent by the city of Vicksburg, the Vicksburg Convention Business Bureau, the Vicksburg Convention Center and Main Street. In addition to that, it can be rented for wedding receptions and other events.
The trolley functions as a separate entity. It is designed in the style of a classic trolley, however it will not need the use of tracks to move about.
The cost of this trolley has come to around $255,000 paid to the order of Creative Bus Sales, Inc. The mayor hopes that this purchase will increase revenue from tourism and bring back an old timey feel to the Vicksburg experience for those who come to visit.
