Newly purchased barge catches fire at Miller Materials Inc.

Just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, a newly purchased barge caught fire at Miller Materials Inc., near WaterView Casino.

Louis Miller, the owner of the barge, reported that the fire began on the vessel when workers were refueling the generator. As they were trying to restart the generator, it backfired and ignited the fire. Despite the use of two extinguishers, they were unable to fully extinguish the flames.

The Vicksburg Fire Department responded to the fire with a significant presence and worked to contain it for more than an hour. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with the incident.
