In February 2023, Annie Carson, 67, was taken into custody following an incident on North Washington Street in which she allegedly struck Kenny Ray Smith, 61, who was walking at the time. Smith died from his injuries. Carson had been facing charges including manslaughter, culpable negligence, careless driving, and driving on the wrong side of the road.

The grand jury’s recent decision means that Carson will not face trial based on the evidence currently presented.
