NWS issues flood warning for the Big Black River

The National Weather Service in Jackson issued a flood warning for the Big Black River near Bovina affecting Warren and Hinds counties.

At 7:15 this morning the stage was 40.2 feet. Flood stage is 28 feet. Major flooding is occurring, and major flooding is forecast. The river is near crest this morning. It should remain steady over the next couple of days.

Flood warnings are also in effect on the Big Black at West affecting Attala and Holmes counties, and at Bentonia affecting Madison and Yazoo counties.

Do not drive or walk through areas where water covers a roadway. The water may be deeper than it appears. Remember: Turn around; don’t drown.
