A now-viral video that seems to show a Vicksburg Police officer using excessive force has resulted in the officer in the video being placed on administrative leave.

In an exclusive interview with the Vicksburg Daily News, Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones stated, “The Vicksburg Police Department is currently investigating a video that has surfaced via social media. At this point, it is a personnel matter and it will be investigated internally. At this time the officer identified in this video is on administrative leave pending further investigation.”

The officer, Eddie Colbert, was attempting to arrest John Dolley for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Colbert joined the Vicksburg Police Department in 2014 and most recently worked as an investigator. On December 5, 2020, Colbert was in Jackson, Mississippi where he was shot in the face, an injury that left him in critical condition. He returned to the force earlier this year.

The Vicksburg Daily News will stay with this story and keep you updated as more information becomes available.
