One dead and three injured in five vehicle accident in Byram

One person was killed in a five-vehicle accident in Byram this morning. Three others involved in the wreck were injured.

Around 10:30 a.m., a gravel truck, two 18-wheelers, a small Hyundai car and a Ford Expedition SUV collided on Interstate 55 near Siwell Road, reports WAPT.

Cmdr. David Errington of the Byram Police Department said one person died on the scene. A passenger in the Hyundai, the driver of the SUV and one of the truck drivers were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Both passenger vehicles and one 18-wheel truck were totaled.

Police closed the southbound lanes of the highway at the crash location until around 2:30 p.m.
