One dead on North Washington

At 12:50 a.m. a single-vehicle accident on North Washington took the life of a Warren County resident.

Initial evidence indicates the vehicle was traveling north on Washington and headed towards the harbor. Skid marks can be seen for several hundred feet indicating the car was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle veered to the right, left the roadway and went into the ditch. It then traveled up an embankment before making an impact with a large metal power pole.

The first person to approach the vehicle indicated to 911 operators that the driver most likely did not survive the impact.

A call was placed to the deputy coroner, Kelda Bailess, at about 1:15 a.m.

North Washington Street was blocked to traffic while first responders, including Rescue and FireMedic 40 along with Engine 6 worked to extract the driver from the vehicle. Traffic 1, Bobby Jones was at the accident scene for the city.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Master Sergeant Kervin Stewart was at the accident scene. North Washington Street in that area is a state highway. Stewart will provide any pertinent information on the accident once all the proper notifications have been made.

The Vicksburg Daily News will not divulge any information regarding the accident victim or the vehicle type until all family members have been notified.
