A young man has died as a result of a high-speed accident on Church Street near Coffee in Port Gibson.

Port Gibson police Chief Russell Dorsey has reported to the Vicksburg Daily News that just after 9:15 p.m. Saturday night, 19-year-old D’Qaveno Hill of Hermanville was observed traveling south on US 61 into Port Gibson at “an extremely high rate of speed.”

As Hill continued south into Port Gibson at a high rate of speed, his vehicle made contact with a brown Buick LaCrosse driven by Robert Anderson, 67, of Port Gibson. The contact caused Hill to lose control of his Black Lexus. The Lexus then impacted a tree on Church Street near its intersection with Coffee Street.

Hill was declared dead at the scene of the accident by Coroner James Mallett.

Anderson was treated and released later that evening.

Chief Dorsey stated that Hill’s body will be sent to the crime lab as a result of the nature of this accident. Chief Dorsey went on to say this incident was still under investigation by Port Gibson law enforcement.
