One dead in Marcus Bottom

One person is dead in Marcus Bottom under mysterious curcumstances.

Around 4:45 a.m. a call came into the Vicksburg Warren 911 call center reporting a person lying in the roadway. Police were dispatched to Military Avenue in Marcus Bottom near its intersection with Halls Ferry.

Initial radio traffic indicated the person may have been shot.

According to Chief Penny Jones a 74- year-old man was dead at that location, apparently from gunshots. Chief Jones indicated that it doesn’t appear to be a robbery because the deceased was wearing jewelry.

Vicksburg Police are investigating the incident including checking cameras in the area.
