One dead in Parchman riot

Numerous sources have advised the Vicksburg Daily News that the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchmana is experiencing a riot as we publish this story.

WLOX is reporting that one inmate has been killed and numerous others injured.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Special Operations Group, along with Mississippi Department of Corrections SWAT teams have been deployed to the facility. Additionally, American Medical Response has sent personnel and resources to be on standby.

All visitation and admission to any state facility is canceled at this time.

The riot comes in the wake of three inmate deaths in last few days, and an MDOC ordered lockdown of state and private prison facilities.
