One in custody after car chase

Vicksburg Police Officers apprehended an out-of-town woman after she led police on an 8-mile chase into the county.
At about 12:45 p.m., 911 dispatchers reported shoplifting at Dollar General on Pemberton near Halls Ferry. A VPD unit was on South Frontage Road and saw a vehicle matching the description of the shoplifting subject vehicle, an older model red Altima, on the South Frontage road. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but they failed to yield to lights and sirens. The suspect vehicle proceeded east and entered I-20 at Indiana Avenue.
The VPD unit stayed in close pursuit noting that the red Altima was passing other vehicles on the right shoulder. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace was in the area and directed one of his units, WC-41, Daniel Thomas, to assist. Deputy Thomas was near the chase and was able to join behind the VPD unit. The Mississippi Highway patrol also joined in the chase and set up units at the Bovina exit.
Law enforcement was able to coax the suspect’s vehicle into stopping just short of the Bovina exit on I-20 East. The interstate was shut down for about three minutes while the suspect was safely taken into custody. You can watch a live report here.
The interstate reopened quickly and there was minimal impact on the flow of traffic.
