One in custody after leading police on pursuit
One man is in custody after a high speed chase through traffic.
An individual in a white Chevy truck fled from officers after an attempt by officers to perform a traffic stop near the intersection of Mission and Clay. Sgt. Heggins was driving east on Clay Street in the left lane and driver, Jimmy Smith, passed in the west bound lane.
Officers initiated blue lights and siren and the vehicle sped up and changed lanes almost striking officer Buddy Holiday’s unmarked unit. The driver stopped at the red light at Mission and Clay. Sgt Heggins and Investigator Barnes approached the vehicle but the vehicle drove off, continuing east to Hwy 27 where officer Jerry Davidson stopped in front of him, blocking his path.
Vicksburg police officers were able to take the Smith into custody after the chase terminated near the Beechwood four-way.
