One person dead in accident at Eagle Lake
Several citizens attempted to help. At some point, the effort was terminated when it became obvious the victim was not responding to CPR.
A Warren County resident has died after an accident at Eagle Lake late Sunday night.
Just after 10:40 p.m. Sunday night, 911 received a call that CPR was being performed on a person at Messina Landing, the public boat launch at Eagle Lake. The person had been pulled out of the water after being seen floating near the dock. The individual had earlier been on a pontoon with a group of people. The group stopped at the LoSto to get something to eat and after eating, the victim offered to assist the captain and ride back to Messina Landing to load the pontoon onto the trailer.
As they arrived at Messina Landing, the captain of the boat left the individual in the boat and walked up the ramp to get their truck and trailer. When they got back to the dock the victim was not there and the captain thought they had walked up to the parking lot, so the captain loaded the boat. After securing the pontoon they parked and started looking for the individual in the parking lot but did not find them.
What happened next is uncertain, but the victim was seen floating in the water, was pulled to the dock, and CPR was begun.
Several citizens attempted to help. At some point, the effort was terminated when it became obvious the victim was not responding to CPR. Fire Medic 30, Rescue, Fish and Wildlife, and numerous Sheriff’s Deputies including Johnny Beachamp along with Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace all responded to the scene.
Coroner Doug Huskey arrived just before midnight and declared the person deceased.
The Vicksburg Daily News will release more information on this event once the family of the victim has been notified.
An earlier report at 10:18 of a loose boat in the lake appears to be unrelated to this event.
