Police Chief Penny Jones speaks on the resignation and termination within the Vicksburg Police Department.

An officer accused of sexual assault has resigned and a booking officer was terminated for violating policies from the Vicksburg Police Department.

Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones spoke with Vicksburg Daily News on Monday about recent changes within the police department.

“Last week I met with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen in reference the suspension of a booking officer and a police officer, with pay. The suspension was actually upheld, so we met today.”

Jones then stated the officer, Derrick Dotson, accused of sexual assault, resigned from the police department. The booking officer, Jessie Harris, was terminated due to violating policies within the department. Harris was already on probation, according to Mayor George Flaggs.

“Anything criminal is being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office, we don’t have anything to do with that. We were only involved in the internal investigation of it.”

Flaggs stated that no criminal charges have been filed that he is aware of.
