Oscar B. “Sonny Boy” Hickman, Jr., 1936 – 2023

Oscar B. “Sonny Boy” Hickman, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Merit Health River Region Hospital at the age of 86.

He was the son of the late Oscar B. Hickman, Sr. and Emma E. Johnson Hickman.

He was a 1955 graduate of Culkin Academy in Vicksburg, MS. He was a pipefitter by trade with Union Local 619. He traveled to many places with his work. He retired from the Union Local and enjoyed
hunting, fishing, planting a small garden and camping. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an active member of Bovina Baptist Church where he taught the Men’s Sunday School Class. He loved his family, friends and church family wholeheartedly!

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sondra “Sonny Girl” Guyton Hickman, his children, Phyllis Oldenburg (Wayne), Anthony “Tony” Hickman (Margie), Monty Hickman (Michel Townsend) and Kimberly “Kim” Crothers (Doug), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister, Victoria Melton (Jerry), and his brothers, Barry Hickman (Nancy) and Garry Hickman (Barbara) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary E. Blair and Patricia L. Hickman.

Services will be Friday, June 16, 2023, at Bovina Baptist Church, 5293 Highway 80, in Vicksburg with Dr. Chip Starnes Officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Parker, Jerry Stuart, Jerry Bailey, James Henry, Joe Graves and Brad Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class and his Camping Group. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Riles Funeral Home.
