Over $14,000 worth of jewelry reported to have been stolen in Thursday’s robbery
The amount of jewelry stolen from Carter’s Jewelry Store has been assessed at over $14,000, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Thursday, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Vicksburg Police responded to Carter’s Jewelry at Pemberton Plaza, near Kroger in reference to a robbery.
Initial reports indicated a suspect stated they had a gun, but did not display it. A female suspect then attempted to flee with over $14,000 worth of jewelry in a silver GMC and struck a curb, damaging the vehicle’s tires. A BOLO (Be On the Look Out) was issued for the silver GMC.
At approximately 11:50 a.m., a trooper saw two vehicles parked on the shoulder of Interstate 20 in Hinds County, one of which matched the description of the armed robbery suspect. The other vehicle, a Kia, was along the side of the road with the silver GMC.
As officers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Warren County Sheriff’s Department approached the three individuals near the parked vehicles, the male fled on foot, crossed the interstate, and began to climb a fence when the Trooper placed him in custody. The females were arrested without incident.
A subsequent search of the vehicle was performed by Mississippi Highway Patrol. Upon searching, drugs were found within the vehicle. A run of the license plate also revealed the Kia was stolen.
The male, identified as Richard T. Kyles, 36, of Jackson, MS, has been transported to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department and charged with resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and possessing a controlled substance. The armed robbery suspect and the second female were transported to the Vicksburg Police Department.
This incident is currently under investigation by the Vicksburg Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
