Overturned 18-wheeler blocks traffic on 61S

An overturned 18 wheeler has blocked traffic on Highway 61 South in the northbound lane at the entrance ramp to Interstate 20 West.

Just before noon, an 18-wheeler overturned on the roadway. The area around the scene will be shut down while rescue works the wreckage.

The truck’s cargo has littered the road. The driver appeared to be uninjured.

According to a witness, the truck suffered a blowout on the front driver-side tire and the driver attempted to maintain control of the vehicle. According to the witness and the driver there was nothing more he could do.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk states it will take at least a few hours to clear the area.
