Paws for Cars benefits Paws Rescue

The first annual Paws for Cars Open Car Show will be held Sept. 28 starting at  8 a.m. at Hampton Inn & Suites,  3330 Clay Street.

“The main focus of the event is to raise money for Paws Rescue,” said event organizer Al Mashburn. Paws Rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned animals.”We’d like people to come out and show their cars and display their cars for this cause because there are a lot of’car people in town who like to show their cars for causes like that.”

At this event, car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to showcase their vehicles to the public. The unique idea for a car show fundraiser came to Mashburn after his last show proved to be a success.

“I had a 349 Car show back in March which led me to do this,” he said. “The upcoming show is an open show so anybody is welcome to come. They can bring their cars out, and we’ll have a few fun things to do for the children.”

Paws Rescue functions solely off of donations and volunteers. Founded in 2004, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit is a “no kill” animal shelter where volunteers rescue, foster and assist stray and unwanted animals. Paws also helps to reunite lost animals with their owners, and it offers spay and neuter programs when sufficient funds are available. The organization will be taking donations at Paws for Cars.

Registration to display a vehicle at Paws for Cars is $15 before the event and $20 upon arrival. To register, contact Al Mashburn via phone at 601-831-2008 or by email at alchevy@streetrodder.com. Find out more about Paws Rescue and see pets available for adoption on the Paws Rescue’s website and Facebook page.

Paws for Cars is also accepting sponsorships. Options for sponsors include a silver sponsorship for $100, a gold sponsorship for $250, a platinum sponsorship for $500 and a diamond sponsorship for $1,000. Sponsors will be announced at the event.

“It’ll be a fun day,” Mashburn said. “The public can come out for free and look at the cars and donate to a great charity all at the same time.”
